6 Steps to Develop A Wealth Mindset (and live a prosperous life)

Do you ever look at others and wonder how they’ve managed to create a lifestyle full of abundance and prosperity?

Are you envious of their lifestyle and find yourself asking what his/her secret is, or worse, chalking it all up to luck?

develop a wealth mindset

If so, you’re not alone. As human beings, we all have a tendency to compare ourselves to others in a survival of the fittest sort of way. When we fall short, rather than observing and learning what action steps we can take to create change, we tell ourselves we’re just unlucky or we make excuses for why they have what we don’t such as “they were born rich” or, “they work in a field that pays more”.

However, the way to a prosperous life has little to do with luck. Which, if you consider yourself unlucky, this should be great news.

Living a life of prosperity and abundance starts by developing a wealth mindset.

Thankfully, abundance is not only for the “chosen few”. It’s everyone’s birthright. We’ve all heard at least a few rags to riches stories. Stories of people pulling themselves up from nothing to create mass success and fortune.

It can happen for you too.

If you’re asking yourself how or even shaking your head while thinking, this is for “other” people and not for me, keep reading.

Your thoughts are the first place to start. Your thoughts create your feelings. Your feelings create your actions. Your actions create your results. Circumstances are neutral.

This model, so easily explained by Brooke Castillo can be applied to every area of your life.

Change your thoughts, change your mindset, change your life.

You don’t simply wake up one morning and declare you will be more mindful of your prosperity. It takes practice. It also takes intentionality. You need to want this so much in your life that you focus on it daily and willingly move forward taking the steps to make it a reality.

It’s common to want instant gratification. You see something you want and you want it now. Or, maybe instead of setting goals you float around embracing the idea of whatever happens, happens.

But where do both of these approaches get you? When you don’t receive instant gratification you give up on your goal. You avoid taking any steps. You remain inactive. You don’t even bother to try.

This is why neither one of these approaches will lead you to a prosperous and abundant life.

Any goal worth achieving requires action on your part. You have to create a plan and take the necessary steps to reach your goal.

Maybe you’re someone who sets goals so high, there is no place to go but down. You fall short, become overzealous too quickly, and don’t follow any guidance. There is a way around all of this.

Here are the 6 steps you need to take to develop a wealth mindset and live a prosperous life.

6 Steps To Develop A Wealth Mindset

If you want to be prosperous, you need to have a wealthy mindset action plan. For some, setting a goal means taking out pen and paper, creating lists and making graphs. All those things are well and good. However, you need to start with what’s in your mind first.

Since your thoughts drive your actions and your actions create your results, it’s important to make sure that your thoughts steer you down the right road – the road to wealth.

Train your mind with these 6 steps:

1. Create Goals With Purpose

Define your “what” and your “why”. What does a wealthy life look like to you and why do you want it. When you understand why want something and focus on the feeling achieving the goal will bring, it becomes easier to manifest. You’ll be tapping into the energy that is necessary to attract it. Those who are focused on the end goal tend to leave out the big picture, which is what you are creating and why you are creating it. An example would be “I will build a retirement account of $700,000 through regular weekly contributions to my RRSP so I can retire by the age of 45 and use the income generated by my investments to travel the world.” This goal is specific, measureable and time bound. Look at your goal as a declaration to yourself and to others.

2. Attach Emotion To Your Goals

Once you have created a financial goal and focus daily on your “what” and your “why,” attach emotion to all that you are doing. Yes, associate emotion to even the mundane stuff. Get excited each time you make a deposit into your retirement account. Feel exhilarated when you see your balance increasing. Inspire others by overcoming your fear and tackling the unknowns of how to even start an investment account.

3. Change Your Perception

When you write down your goal and start coming with the action steps you’ll need to take to get there, don’t look your list as a boring, mundane chore. Sure, creating a sticking to a budget doesn’t sound fun but it is what you make of it. Find ways to make each action step enjoyable. These savings trackers are an excellent way to motivate you and keep you on track. Look at each action step as a being one step closer to creating a life that you love where all your dreams come true.

4. Examine Your Beliefs

If you’re trying to achieve a goal that you don’t actually believe is possible, you’ll never get the results you want. Our beliefs are deeply rooted within us. Look for evidence to refute any negative belief that is holding you back from achieving your goal. If someone else can do it, so can you. If saving a $700,000 retirement account is too far of a stretch start with a small action step. For example, one of your action steps may be to save $50 per week. This is probably something you believe you can do. Use this belief to build belief in your ability to achieve your overall goal.

5. Pay Attention To Your Thoughts

Chances are you have some old dialogue running in the background telling you something is impossible. When you hear that old dialogue, recreate it to I’m possible. Check in with your thoughts. Do you feel other people have it better than you do? Do you have a woe is me attitude

6. Choose Your Word

The words you speak could dictate your life. If you spend too much time speaking about woe is me subjects, chances are you will energetically attract more of that into your life. Using terms such as, “I can’t, I don’t know, I’m not…” are holding you back. Once you make a conscious effort to keep these self-sabotaging words out of your vocabulary, you will begin to notice a shift. Change your phrases to “I will, I am, I have, I can”. You will be amazed at how this single most important shift in your vocabulary will change your thoughts and change your life.

Developing a wealth mindset takes practice, time and commitment. You don’t have to go this alone. The most successful people have other people holding them accountable for their thoughts. Learn to be authentic and surround yourself with positive people.

And always, always look for the greatest potential outcome. Stop whining and thinking you’re unlucky or that because you weren’t born rich it’s not possible for you to become rich.

Take control of what you can and let go of the jealousy and comparison when you see others have what you want. Instead, learn from them. Once you start looking beyond lack and scarcity and start welcoming abundance and prosperity, possibilities open up, creativity is sparked and your sense of empowerment will lead you to success.

To become a vibrational match for what it is you desire, you often need to first change the beliefs that say you can’t have what you desire.

Your vibration is the energy you send out to the Universe.

1. Get clear on what it is you desire

2. Know that you are worthy to receive your desire.

3. Be open to only your desire or something better – there is no plan B

4. Live from a place that knows your desire is already yours

Allow the Universe to guide you through intuition. When an idea sparks in you, follow it. You are being led on the path of least resistance towards your desire.

Yesterday I mentioned how important it is to take Yesterday I mentioned how important it is to take that first step.
Once you start looking beyond lack and scarcity you can start welcoming abundance and prosperity.

Today I hit the 15k mark in my debt repayment plan and I couldn't be more proud of myself.

This amount is more than I've made this year.
That's why it's so important to trust in the Universe. You don't need to know how the money is going to come in, you just need to believe that it will and have a solid action plan for when it does.

Since shifting my mindset, money has come from various sources outside of my regular income. It's come in forms completely unexpected such as gifts, a settlement (from 8 years ago), refunds and side projects.
I used to roll my eyes when others said these types of things happened to them, chalking it up to luck. Believing I was just unlucky.

But now these things are happening to me. Money is flowing in unexpectedly which is exactly why I love talking with and helping other women transform their relationship with money and develop a wealth mindset so they too can have this type of success.

The possibilities are endless.

Have you ever had an unexpected amount of money show up for you?

The first step towards financial independence is d The first step towards financial independence is different for everyone.

It could be creating and following a budget. Paying more than the minimum payment on your credit cards. Catching up on past due bills.
Whatever it is, do it!

Sure, it's going to be hard. But being broke is harder.

Learning this lesson took me a long time. I put off coming up with a plan to pay off my debt for many years, telling myself I'd never succeed so why bother trying.

Then, at the age of 35, I found myself meeting with an insolvency trustee discussing bankruptcy. That was my enough is enough moment.

I walked out of that office determined to take the first step towards financial independence. No matter how hard and how long it would take me, I committed to paying my debt in full.
I went home and spent hours creating a plan that didn't feel restrictive but would allow me to pay off my debt faster than it would for a bankruptcy to clear off my record.

Finally, for the first time in my life, I felt in control of my financial future.
That bankruptcy meeting was only 5 short months ago and I have made more progress than I ever thought possible. Partly due to creating and following a plan, but mostly due to a HUGE shift in mindset. "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right."

An area of struggle for many is accepting compliments and offers. For example when someone else offers to pay for your meal or drink. Let them!

Otherwise, if you turn money down, it will stop showing up because you just put out the message that you don't need more.

If someone else offers you a compliment, thank them and accept it. Stop dismissing compliments and replying with a statement that undervalues what someone else is acknowledging.

Be kind to yourself and others.
